How to use the Anthurium Soil Mix

Using the mix is easy!  start with removing as much of the old soil as possible. Gently squeeze the pot while holding it sideways to loosen up the plant. Run the roots under lukewarm tap water to remove the last pieces and bits.

Also, remove any dead foliage that may still be on the plant using scissors. Now your plant is ready for its fresh Anthurium soil. Add a small layer of Anthurium mix at the bottom of the pot.

Place the plant in the pot, and slowly add Anthurium soil to the sides to fill it up. Make sure that the point where the roots meet the plant is just buried under the Anthurium soil.

Lightly pat the Anthurium mix down into the pot. Make sure to water the Anthurium mix thoroughly after repotting, as this helps settle the mix and roots down.

Why the Anthurium mix works.

As Anthuriums are epiphytic and usually have larger roots, there is lots of coconut husk and orchid bark to allow space for that. Anthuriums are prone to rot, so with the added activated carbon and perlite, a combination of aeration and purification is happening in the soil at any time. This greatly combats the risk of root rot. The perfect anthurium mix!

The original habitat of the Anthurium plants

The Anthurium is a slow-growing plant favouring humid conditions, usually found in tropical forests in Central & South America. Most species of Anthurium are climbing plants and have thick, epiphytic roots. They require a gritty mix with thicker chunks to support these roots.

How to care for Anthurium plants

As they are native to tropical rainforests, they prefer higher humidity and regular watering. Unlike alocasia, you should let the top few centimetres of the soil dry out before watering again. Do regularly mist your anthurium if you live in a dry environment.

Anthuriums prefer indirect bright light, brighter light helps produce big, healthy flowers. Do not keep it in full sun as the leaves will burn.

          Socially responsible production

At Sybotanica we not only want to make plants happy, but people happy as well. In our production team we exclusively hire people with a distance from the workforce, and help them rehabilitate to the normal working life.

          Take Peter for example:

Peter has been with Sybotanica since the 1st hour, and has now been promoted to head of production & a permanent contract! Where he was the first employee, he now manages a team of 3 production workers.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Peter achieved all this with only 10% visibility! 🕶️ With a few minor adjustments to his working environment, Peter is able to perform his job 100%.

Peter has now been through two moves and knows all the ins & outs of Sybotanica. He can even feel by the potting soil which variety it is. That's quite a challenge with 16 different mixes!

We are confident that Peter will keep production running smoothly in the coming years too! 💪

                  FAQ's

Not sure if the Anthurium mix is right for your plant?

                  Check out the SYBASoil Guide

How much Anthurium mix do I need?

Check out this pot volume calculator tool to calculate how much Anthurium mix you need.

When do I need to re-feed the soil?

The nutrients in SYBASoil will run out in ~6 months on average. We recommend refeeding by removing the top part of the soil and adding 10-20% of the volume with fresh worm castings.

How long does SYBASoil stay fresh?

You can store SYBASoil for about 2 years. Make sure to store it cool, dark and closed off. The effectiveness of the nutrients can degrade over the years. Simply add some fresh worm castings to give the soil new life.

When do I repot the plant?

We recommend repotting once any of these things happen:
                  - You see roots growing out of the bottom of the pot
                  - The soil dries very quickly between watering
                  - The plant is top-heavy and wants to fall over
                  - Roots are pushing the plant up and out of the container
                  - Every 1 to 2 years

                  How to recycle SYBASoil packaging

Our packaging can be recycled at your local plastic recycling facility.

You can also re-use it for storage, or leave a little soil and use it as a propagation box!

How to water plants grown on the Anthurium mix

Water the soil only when the top 2-3cm of the soil is dried out. You can test this out by poking your finger in the soil to feel around.

It is fine to let it dry out a bit more sometimes if you forget it as the deeper soil will retain moisture for longer. This will also help the roots to grow deeper.
