FAQ

Why does the pumice come slightly moist?
Pumice has a natural moisture content. The moisture is necessary for good plant growth with this material.
If the pumice is completely dry, it will no longer absorb water and can draw moisture from your plant's roots.

How do I use pumice to prevent Fungus Gnats?
You can add a thin layer of pumice to your soil as a top dressing to prevent fungus gnats and other soil-borne bugs.
Fungus gnats lay their eggs in the topsoil. A layer of pumice blocks their path, so they cannot reach the soil and lay eggs!

What is the difference between pumice and perlite for houseplants?
The main difference between pumice and perlite is that pumice is much heavier. It also holds onto more moisture and nutrients than perlite.
It is better for mixes that need weight and good drainage, like cacti and succulent mixes.

Mooi formaat en zeer geschikt voor een cactusmengsel. In tegenstelling tot perliet komt het na het watergeven niet bovendrijven.
Bovendien stuift het niet tijdens het mengen met zand en grond.

Bought 9mm pumice which arrived promptly. All bags had condensation inside showing substrate was damp so needed opening and drying.

So this is actually done on purpose. We would love to ship it dry as it saves on shipping cost but slightly moist pumice is so that when it's used in soil, the first time you put it in it might actually draw water out of the roots, especially if you don't water for the first time. This can damage the roots.

That's why it's slightly damp, so it cost us more work to do it this way but we feel it's better for the plants!
